“This is a film about me having a baby. But what I feel like I’m going through isn’t me having a baby, or pregnancy. It’s like a total loss of myself”. Freddy McConall stars in Seahorse, an emotionally challenging documentary which follows his journey as a transgender man who has decided to give birth to his own child. The process is disheartening, grueling, and frustrating, but Freddy is determined to see it through to have his own baby in his arms. With very raw, in-depth filmmaking, the entirety of Freddy’s journey is captured in order to emphasize the trials a trans man must go through in a process that is traditionally only for women. This film will keep any viewer hooked on the ups and downs of this unusual but beautiful experience, and reminds us all that there is no one way to be a dad.
